The area of 'The Branch' was designed around 1920, by Sir Walter Burley Griffin. The village existed mainly on the timber industry and had a population of approx. 500 people. The Branch River system along with this large subdivision is approx. 45 minutes upstream and navigable from Port Stephens/Nelson Bay. The Branch offers a huge history, some of which includes large steam and tallships which navigated past its banks, on the way to off load supplies at the Booral Wharf. The wharf has unfortunately fallen into the river. Back then, bullock teams pulled drays of supplies up to numerous villages including, Stroud, Booral & Simsville.
